As most of you probably don’t know I am very active in community service and volunteering, mainly fire and rescue services. I am an active Fire Fighter and an active ALS provider for my local Rescue Squad. Over the past couple months I have been trying to get my recertification hours in before the end of the year. Luckly for me I found this amazing web site that allows me to get some of my training hours by watching videos and then taking short 10 question quizes to just verify that I have watched the video.
Not only was this an amazing tool for me to use to help get my hours, but I was acutally surprised at some of the things I learned through the special guest speakers that they had on the videos. I know this technology is by no means a new technology, producing videos to be viewed over the internet. But I do think that it is a technology that is under used and has such great potential for, well everyone. The ability to study and learn at your own pace, being able to rewind the video and review a section your didn’t quite understand. To be able to see something down in front of you instead of trying to imagine it in a book. All this things make online videos such a great learning tool.
With all this being said I am going to jump on this band wagon (finally I know) and I am going to produce a web site with instructional videos about anything and everything technology. These instructional videos will provide new and experienced users with information on anything from installing a new Windows 2008 server to installing and setting up SNORT on Ubuntu. And since all this information is dynamic and constantly changing I would love you know your thoughts and interests in it.
Would you use such a website and what kind of videos would you like to see displayed? I am really open for any and all suggestions and once I have this site up I will constantly be taking suggestions on what my viewers would like videos about. So please give me your feedback on what you think about this way of learning and self studying,
