Why every web site needs SEO

Every site needs some form of SEO or advertising or else the web site is absolutly useless because no one will see it there. Now when I speak of SEO and advertising it can be as simple as adding some new content every few days or telling some friends about your site. Or as difficult and expensive as having someone completly optimize your website for search engines and purchasing PPC ads off of Google or Yahoo.

MikeNET PC CMS Version 1.0 Finished

For anyone out there who follows my articles and blog posts you should know that I have been working on a CMS or Content Management System that people will be able to use to create and manage their web site without having to know HTML. Well I have finally finished Version 1.0 and I am looking for Beta testers how would like to try it or anyone who wants a free CMS.

How To Reset a Symbol AP 5131

Symbol is a large company when it comes to technology products and even wireless devices. Symbol offers a more affordable alternative to Cisco while still including some of the functionality of Cisco products. Symbol like Cisco and unlike Netgear or the Linksys models does not have a switch on the back to allow you to simply reset the wireless to factory defaults. Link Cisco equipment you have to have physical access to the wireless to reset it if you have forgotten your password. Here we will step you through reseting a Symbol AP 5131 Access Point.

Finding Serial Ports on Linux

If you have bought a computer in the last couple of years then most likely it did not come with any COM ports on it. But you can purchase these really nice USB to serial connections that work great. Sometime however when you plug one into a linux computer it will pick an random unused COM port and you don’t know which one. I personally use PuTTY and I need to know the exact port in order for the serial connection to work.

Installing Network Printer with a Script

Printers are a common problem when it comes to writing scripts for them. Most of use know the NET USE command to map a printer but did you notice that it does not display in Printers and Faxes after you have used the NET USE command. It has been mapped and you can print to LPTx and have it print out but the printer is not listed for Windows use.

Viruses Can Affect All Computers

Ok so I want to set the record straight once and for all about all these advertisments stating that MAC does not get viruses. I personally have absolutly nothing against MAC I think they make a great computer. I am a Windows and Linux user so I am no going to show bias here and I will even include in my statement that Linux is not immuned to viruses as well. People it is all about the numbers here and what make more sense for the person writing the virus or malware as it is more commonly referred to know.

CSS Positioning

So this is a topic where a lot of people have many different opinions on the best way to do CSS positioning and so give you a little perspective as to how frustrating it can be. I saw an pie graph the other day that showed a layout of a Web Designers time spent on a web site and about 1/5 was “Time spent trying to get CSS position to work, then giving up and using tables” and this is such a true statement. I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me. But by using tables you are flexible in your layout but not as flexible as using CSS positioning. The major benefit of using CSS is if you want to change the look you don’t have to change every page, just the CSS.
