Why every web site needs SEO

Every site needs some form of SEO or advertising or else the web site is absolutly useless because no one will see it there. Now when I speak of SEO and advertising it can be as simple as adding some new content every few days or telling some friends about your site. Or as difficult and expensive as having someone completly optimize your website for search engines and purchasing PPC ads off of Google or Yahoo.

For anyone out there who follows my articles and blog posts you should know that I have been working on a CMS or Content Management System that people will be able to use to create and manage their web site without having to know HTML. Well I have finally finished Version 1.0 and I am looking for Beta testers how would like to try it or anyone who wants a free CMS.

Finding Serial Ports on Linux

If you have bought a computer in the last couple of years then most likely it did not come with any COM ports on it. But you can purchase these really nice USB to serial connections that work great. Sometime however when you plug one into a linux computer it will pick an random unused COM port and you don’t know which one. I personally use PuTTY and I need to know the exact port in order for the serial connection to work.

Printers are a common problem when it comes to writing scripts for them. Most of use know the NET USE command to map a printer but did you notice that it does not display in Printers and Faxes after you have used the NET USE command. It has been mapped and you can print to LPTx and have it print out but the printer is not listed for Windows use.

One common problem I seem to find is that I would like to do an administrative task on a users workstation but I don’t want to log them out. Well I recenlty came across this problem when installing a local printer on a users workstation. With normal user rights you can only install a Network printer.

So I was called in over the holiday for a Windows Server 2008 update error that a client was receiving when they attempted to update their server. This error is very well documented by Microsoft and there are alot and I do mean alot of things that can cause this error. Well when I started troubleshooting this server it had not been updated since September 2009 which is quite a while to go without any critical updates to a very important server. MAC addresses are burned in addresses that are associated with your Network card, whether it be wireless, wired or even bluetooth. Each device has a specific MAC address that is unique to it only and no other device has that address. Most systems allow you to change your MAC address but it is purely software based, it will not changed the burned in address on your card. But when you change your MAC address and you connect to a network it will give out the changed address.
